Voting in Karnataka's Chamarajanagar district was disrupted in Indiganatha village as residents boycotted the elections. The situation escalated into violence, with villagers pelting stones at police and damaging an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). Efforts to restore order have been made, but the voting process remains halted, raising concerns about the electoral process in the area.

The Supreme Court today rejected petitions seeking 100% verification of votes cast on Electronic Voting Machines with paper slips generated through the VVPAT method. The Supreme Court, however, passed two directions for the Election Commission.

In Meerut's Golmandir booth of sector 4 and Pialkhua of Hapur at booth number 144, instances of EVM malfunctioning disrupted the voting process, prompting authorities to intervene swiftly.

"We just wanted a few clarifications, factually we should be on the page. The microcontroller is installed in the controlling unit or the VVPAT? Please call the officer at 2 pm," the top court said.

EVM device is being used for the Indian general elections 2024 and while most people know what it is used for, the people who designed it are still unknown to the world.  Meanwhile, EVMs were first tried in 1982 in the by-election to Paravur assembly constituency in Kerala. 

Before NOTA was included in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), voters who wished to reject all candidates had to fill out Form 49-O at a voting booth. However, this process compromised the secrecy of the voter’s choice.
 

Errors were observed during mock polling in the Kasaragod constituency of Kerala, prompting the Supreme Court to direct the Election Commission to investigate the matter. At least four electronic voting machines (EVMs) recorded votes erroneously in favor of the BJP.
