zoo tranquilizes man in a monkey suit

Zoo authorities at the Tama Zoological Park in Tokyo took down a man dressed in a monkey suit with a tranquillizer dart.

Sounds bizarre, doesn’t it?

However, it was done as a part of the training exercise or disaster drill that the zoo conducted.  The premise: an earthquake leads to a monkey, rather a chimpanzee escaping from his enclosure.

Part 1 – Where the chimpanzee escapes

Roughly 100 people took part in this drill.  In the clip, you can see them trying to corner the chimpanzee.  Eventually, someone aims at the chimp, and takes him down in one shot the second time. The first attempt to capture the chimp with the help of a net failed unsuccessfully as the person who tried to capture the chimp “was bitten”.

According to japankyo.com, “ Simulation participants made sure to poke the chimp with a stick before putting him in a net, loading him onto a truck and then taking him away.”

As absurd as that might seem, the Tama Zoological Park wants to be prepared, should any emergency arise in the distant future. So much so, that these drills have been around since 1977. No, kidding. Previous “animals” that have been part of the drills include a lion and a rhinoceros.
