Former state police chief TP Senkumar has stated that he has not given a clean chit to actor Dileep in the Kochi actress attack case.

Clarifying that his interview which appeared in a weekly was wrongly interpreted it, Senkumar stressed that he had only said the police didn’t have enough evidence against Dileep when he was questioned for 13 hours last week.

"I didn't say the police have no evidence against Dileep now. I only meant to say there was no concrete proof against him at the time of interrogation. Evidence and suspicion are two different things. Dileep should have been questioned only after collecting and assessing all information," the veteran officer pointed out.

Earlier, a Malayalam weekly had carried an interview of Senkumar saying there was no evidence against Dileep and ADGP B Sandhya and team grilled the actor and director Nadirshah for 13 hours at the Aluva press club on June 28 as a "publicity stunt". Senkumar said he was misinterpreted by the publication, which reported only "half truths".

In the interview, Senkumar had also criticised ADGP Sandhya who is leading the investigation. He said that Sandhya does not inform concerned officers about the progress of the investigation, and that even IG Dinendra Kashyap, who is in charge of the case, doesn't know about the status of the probe.

Meanwhile, Loknath Behera, who succeeded Senkumar as state police chief, has dismissed all accusations against the probe team. In a letter sent to Sandhya, Behera congratulated the team for the progress so far and also stated the probe is moving in the right direction.
