Activist Rahul Easwar visited Akhila Ashokan aka Hadiya at her residence near Kottayam on Thursday, despite the strict security measures in place as per a Supreme Court order.

The police have denied permission to journalists and even women's rights activists to visit and talk to Hadiya, ever since the Kerala High Court annulled her marriage with Shafin Jahan in May, describing it as a case of 'love jihad'.

Rahul has posted selfies with Hadiya, her father Ashokan KM and mother Ponnamma, along with a video in which both Hadiya and Ponnamma can be seen speaking out on the issue.

Ponnamma says that her daughter has urged her to convert to Islam, cautioning that otherwise she would not go to heaven. "She told me 'there are several Hindu Gods, they are mere symbols. There's only one true God and that's Allah'," Ponnamma, who is visibly distressed, says in the video, adding that "I want my child back, In just want my daughter back".

Hadiya, on the other hand, has been living in just a small room with an attached bath for the last three months, while practising Islam. "Is keeping me like this fair? Is this how I am going to live?" the girl can be seen asking. Rahul says Hadiya told him she wants to live and die as a Muslim.

Hadiya, 24, had testified in the Kerala High Court that she had converted to Islam in her own volition and that she met Shafin, 27, through a matrimonial site. However, Ashokan has argued that Shafin has links to the Islamic State, following which the HC annulled the marriage and ordered her to return to her parents.

Petitioner Shafin then moved the Supreme Court, which ordered an NIA probe into the sensational case on Wednesday. Justice RV Ravindran, a retired judge of the apex court, will supervise the investigation.
