New liquor policy: Over 100 bars set to to reopen in Kerala

New liquor policy Over 100 bars set to to reopen in Kerala

As many as 100 bars are expected to reopen across the state as the LDF government's new liquor policy will come into effect on July 2. The excise department had already given license to 62 bars in the state and bar owners of all districts except Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Kasargod have received the license. 

The department also issued to license to 12 new bars, and of them, eight are in Ernakulam district. The LDF government has decided to issue the license to all bars with three star or fancier hotels to serve liquor.

The government has issued licenses to 2112 toddy shops among 2528 shops in the state. The excise department is yet to issue the license to 416 toddy shops. 

Those who got the license will have to wait till Sunday to transport bottles to the shops and to sell them. The first day of every month is declared as a dry day in Kerala. 

However, no new hotels have applied for bar license as the 129 hotels situated more than 500 meters away from highways are yet to get the renewal of their ratings before applying for bar license.
