15 lakh security bill Madani Supreme Court flays Karnataka government

The Supreme Court strongly criticised Karnataka government for slapping ₹15 lakh towards security expense of Abdul Nasser Madani, to visit Kerala from August 1 to 14.

"It is the government's duty to give salary to police officers, and they are also responsible for the security of trial prisoners," the court said.

The apex court observed that the move might be a plot to thwart the travel plans of 2008 Bengaluru serial blast accused. Madani had approached the Supreme Court after  the state government asked him to bear the security expense, amounting to ₹15 lakh, during his visit to Kerala. The PDP leader also planned to cancel his visit as he could not bear the expense.

Following this, PDP leaders had approached Kerala Chief Minister, who wrote to the Karnataka government that it is willing to take care of security if the accused reaches the state.
