The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation that ferries passengers to various routes has always remained a no-profit and no loss company as it has to serve the public by charging nominal fees. But the officials at the KSRTC say that the increasing number of ticketless travellers is haunting the corporation.

According to recent reports, 6,210 passengers were caught travelling without ticket in July, by checking inspectors at various routes."A fine amount of Rs 7,56,110 was collected through ticketless passengers, but we suspect many would have escaped the checking on the various routes. Apart from ticketless passengers case, the KSRTC has also come to know that much of the blame was also on the staff who were responsible for pilferage in money. In July a pilferage of Rs 88,269 was reported, and action has been initiated against them," said a senior KSRTC official.

To bring more discipline and fear among such travellers, KSRTC plans to intensify checking especially during weekends, on special occasions and in vulnerable routes.

Now passengers should be on their guard and they should travel on buses only after taking a ticket to their respective destinations or hold valid passes. Apart from this make sure that the bus conductors give you tickets even if it is for the shortest destination. KSRTC conductors are often known to not offer tickets for Rs 10 or Rs 5 destinations.
