To curb copying State plans simultaneous exams for SSLC PU classes

Bogged down by complaints of malpractices during examinations, the state government is planning to reform the examination process in the state. It is reported that the government may have SSLC and PU exams together from March/April 2018 as part of its reform process. The government believes that holding examinations together for both SSLC and PU will bring down the complaints of mass copying and other irregularities, reports The New Indian Express.

However, it is not yet clear whether the officials of Department of Primary and Secondary Education are equipped to implement this. But the discussions are reportedly underway in this regard and a final decision would be out by second week of August.

According to Education Minister Tanveer Sait the joint exercise will not only save time but will also help in maintaining logistics and human resources for the exams for the department.

Since last year, the department has been grappled with issues of rampant exam paper leaks and mass copying. Besides, papers with error had also become order of the day. "Holding exams simultaneously will resolve at least 90 per cent of these issues. For, the number of exam invigilators will come down," reports TNIE quoting minister Sait. Sait suggested that students of both the classes will be shuffled in the exam halls like one SSLC student will write exam with one PU student on each desk. This will curb copying, the minister observed. But implementing this exercise could be a daunting task before the department. For, considering the massive number of students who take exam in both SSLC and PU, the department will have tough time scouting for the examination halls with proper infrastructure and also invigilators, reports The New Indian Express.

There are at least 16,000 government and aided high schools and 5,000 PU colleges in the state.
