Petrol and diesel vehicles will be banned on the famous tourist spot Nandi Hill near Bengaluru. Instead, alternate eco-friendly electric vehicles will be provided by the Tourism Department. Nandi Hill being a popular tourist spot is getting heavy traffic on a daily basis and during weekends it is even more. This is causing dense pollution. The heavy traffic is also causing increase in the temperature of the hill and if this continues the Nandi Hill will lose its famous weather.

Acting on the complaints by environmentalists about the heavy traffic and pollution, the Tourism Department has decided to ban petrol and diesel vehicles on the Nandi Hill and stop all vehicles 8 KM away from the base. An alternate arrangement will be provided to transport visitors to the hill from the base in eco-friendly electric vehicles, said Tourism Minister Priyank Kharge.

A huge parking lot will be facilitated at the base and efforts are on to identify location for the same. Even two wheelers are banned. Meetings are already held with departments concerned, local representatives and the Tourism Minister and a collective decision was taken in this regard, said tourism officials.

Nandi Hill and the surrounding areas provide ample opportunities for adventure sports like hiking, trekking, cycling, rock climbing etc and nature tracks are being identified for facilitating the same. Nandigiri, Skandagiri, Chennagiri and Brahmagiri are ideal for such adventures and already three tracks are identified and being finalised.

The Bengaluru Cycling Group met the Chikballapur MLA Dr K Sudhakar and submitted an appeal to him to stop all petrol, diesel vehicular traffic on Nandi Hill on Saturday and Sunday, coming to effect immediately. The MLA has responded positively and assured to discuss with the ZP and take action.
