Five-year-old at KG Halli police station limits in Bengaluru on Sunday was known to the accused and had always called him 'Appa' (father).

"Veeresh was like father to my daughter. She always called out to him as appa or mama (uncle) and he responded as 'paapu' (child). But we never saw his cruel mind," is how the mother of five-year-old victim reacted. "He should be hanged in the middle of the road," she cried.
Her daughter had gone to answer nature call in the wee hours of June 3 when Veeresh kidnapped her and raped her before throwing her next to a drain. The victim with a severed finger and severe head injuries was rushed to Bowring Hospital by Hoysala police. The mother who did not find her daughter in the mid of the night took the help of neighbours in search of her daughter around 3 am, reports Prajavani.
The victim's mother is the lone earner in the family as her husband is bed-ridden. "My husband has no strength in his legs. So, I go out and eke out a living. Veeresh stayed in a hut next to our house with his wife and child. He worked as a coolie and doubled up as rag-picker during the night," the victim's mother told the KG Halli police, reports Prajavani.
According to the mother, Veeresh would bring her biscuits and chocolates. Veeresh's pregnant wife is away at her place when the incident occurred. "On the ill-fated day, when my daughter had gone out, he lured to his hut with chocolate. He took her to a vacant site and raped her. My daughter is still in a shock why her 'appa' caused her so much pain," the mother told the police. "We want him to be hanged to death," she pleaded with the police.
Veeresh - according to the police - had joined the victim's mother to search for her daughter in the locality. He never once showed remorse. He is said to have told the police that he did not realise his mistake as he was drunk. "But when I realised my mistake I was scared. I tried to bludgeon her to death. Please, do not say this to my wife," Veeresh is said to have told the police, reports Prajavani.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson Kripa Amar Alva visited the victim at the Bowring Hospital on Monday. "Her finger has been surgically stitched back. Her blood samples have been sent for lab. She is in severe trauma and needs counselling. Will speak to Nimhans doctor Dr Seshadri to help her," she told mediapersons.
