Leesha becomes States first victim of terrorism to get government job

After a prolonged four-year fight with the State government to get justice, Leesha NS, who suffered serious injuries in the bomb blast near Malleswaram BJP office, has finally got a government job offer as the First Divisional Assistant in the Fire and emergency services department. This makes Leesha the first victim of terrorism to get a government job in Karnataka. An order to this effect was issued on Saturday by the Personnel and Administrative Reforms department and the same has been communicated to Leesha. Leesha is currently doing her MCA in RV College, reports Kannada Prabha.

Leesha was 17-year-old when the bomb went off at the BJP office in Malleswaram in 2013. She had just come out for a lunch break from tuitions when the tragedy struck. Severely crippled, Leesha has to undergo multiple surgeries (at least nine) at different hospitals. She had petitioned in the court to consider as the victim of a terrorist act and sought compensation in the form of a government job. But with no response from the state government, Leesha had knocked the doors of the High court of Karnataka. Hearing her pleas, the High Court - on October 17 in 2017 - had directed the State government to provide her with a government job in three months. But even after eight months, the State government had not obeyed the court order forcing Leesha and her family to file a contempt of court against the State Home secretary. The State government which heard her pleas had warned the state government to give her a government job on June 6. However, the contempt plea will come before the court on August 1, reports Kannada Prabha.

"I'm really happy that the State government has finally rewarded my four-year fight. I'm studying MCA at RV College and will decide whether to continue my studies along with work or not," reports Kannada Prabha quoting Leesha. Even after nine surgeries, Leesha still cannot walk without a support. Till now, Leesha's family has spent Rs 25 lakh on her treatment and the government has provided Rs 8 lakh towards her medical needs. Leesha who was in the hospital for over 200 days - during her surgeries - has cleared her CET exams and completed her BCA course. She is a MCA student at the RV College. Interestingly, her lawyer H Sunil Kumar has reportedly not taken his fee from Leesha's parents, reports Kannada Prabha.
