Last year, she touched country's highest peak Mount Everest and this year, she had set her goal on scaling Australia's highest mountain, Carstensz mountain. And as she planned, Karnataka's Nanditha Nadagoudar has become the first woman to scale the Australia's highest mountain Carstensz better known as Carstensz pyramid.
Carstensz Pyramid is situated in West Papua (now called as Papua province, Indonesia). At 4,884 m and 16,023 ft, Carstensz Pyramid is almost vertical. The peak crista of Carstensz Pyramid is largely rugged and exposed. Some climbers say that the wall of Carstensz Pyraramid is as sharp as glass, says Carstenszpapua.com, a page dedicated for the mountain.
Nanditha told mediapersons in Bengaluru that "It was difficult mainly due to its topography. The hill is vertical and weather constantly fluctuates here. I'm thrilled to have touched the southern base of the peak. I can't believe that I ditched death to reach where I am today. The stretch on ropeway was one of my most difficult phases of climbing. Also, the gruelling days of walking for 25 days hardened my will never to deviate from my goal. One needs tough physical and mental strength to endure the weather and the challenges that the mountain throws up. I'm very, very excited of having conquered that," Nanditha said, reports Suvarna News. She represented the country along with Satyarup Siddhant of West Bengal in the expedition team. Nanditha is now planning to go to Antartica and it is her target for the next year.
Minister for Mines and Geology Vinay Kulkarni appreciated Nanditha Nadagoudar's steely strength and promised to extend help from the state government.
