IT Raid on DK Shivakumar Gujarat RS elections results BJP invitation to join BJP

"If I talk about what happened before and after the Income Tax raid on me it may lead to things that should not be happening. Things may just go haywire (sic)," is how DK Shivakumar reacted when he was asked to clarify the rumours of BJP's invitation to join the BJP. He had also stated that he would not speak till the results of Rajya Sabha elections in Gujarat are announced, reports Kannada Prabha. Now that the results are out, he is bound to keep his words.

The tension surrounding the Rajya Sabha elections in Gujarat was also felt in Karnataka as minister Shivakumar had volunteered to host 44 Gujarat Congress legislators to stop BJP from poaching them. They were accommodated in a luxurious resort on the outskirts of Bengaluru. While the minister was busy chalking out programmes for his guests, the IT swooped on him and his properties, relatives and his acquaintances. The marathon raid had kept the guests and the minister on edge. It was widely speculated that since minister Shivakumar had allegedly turned down the BJP's invitation to join them, the Centre responded with the surprise IT raid.

In fact, it was widely speculated that minister Shivakumar would follow his mentor and former Congress leader SM Krishna to the BJP. The former chief minister had ditched Congress - after being its 'loyal' member for over four decades - to join the Saffron party. However, Shivakumar defied the rumours and remained in the Congress. As the IT sleuths had begun the raid on the minister, last week, rumours flew thick and fast that the BJP had approached him with an invitation to join the party. The Saffron parties were reportedly taking 'another chance' at wooing the Congress minister.

But Shivakumar refused to talk anything about it and had only said that he would speak after the results of Rajya Sabha elections in Gujarat. Will he keep his words, now?
