Even mild fever and dysentery could be H1N1, warn doctors

The symptoms of Dengue and Chikungunya were prolonged high fever and dysentery. However, the doctors are now saying that the symptoms have changed and even mild fever and dysentery could be Dengue and Chikungunya. Hence medical help should be sought even for mild symptom, they warn. The change in the symptoms of deadly Chikungunya is cause for concern in the City. Rajiv Gandhi Hospital and other hospitals in the City have reported cases of Dengue and Chikungunya with mild symptoms.

This was found following a survey and the doctors are surprised by the change in symptoms. Hence they are sending samples of swab of patients who come reporting mild symptoms to the lab. The doctors are spreading the news about this and want the public to be aware, reports Kannada Prabha.

Hygiene plays an important role in preventing Dengue and Chikungunya. Added to that is the water logging due to rains. According to a survey by the Health Department, in 2017 from Jan to May 5, a total of 6,613 persons have undergone blood test and over 2012 persons are detected to be suffering from H1N1. In Bengaluru BBMP jurisdiction around 993 cases of Chikungunya are reported. Patients suffer from viral fever, headache, cough, nausea. In the State, 15 deaths due to H1N1 are reported so far. The number of cases of Chikungunya reported in the State are: Shimoga 129, Udupi 106, Mysuru 248, Davanagere 62.

The Health Department also confirmed that the number of cases of Dengue reported in Bengaluru City is 1,513 in 2017. Blood tests for Chikungunya were conducted on a total 2,374 patients of whom 304 were confirmed positive. In the current year, more than 30 lakh people were tested for Malaria in the State and 1,672 tested positive. The highest number of cases of Dengue was reported in Dakshina Kannada (1040) and Udupi (11), reports Kannada Prabha.

Health Officer Dr Lokesh MN has stated that Malaria is not reported in Bengaluru City. About 7 each cases of Dengue and Chikungunya were reported in the City. Health Department is campaigning to keep the surroundings clean and without water logging. The Health Department website gives up to date information about Dengue, Malaria and Chikungunya. However, the last entry this time stands at May 15 for Dengue cases and May 5 for Chikungunya cases. The reason may be to hold back information, so as to not to cause panic among the public, even though the numbers are increasing.
