Bengaluru Traffic Police cracks whip on wheelies 125 lakh motorist booked

 

The Bengaluru residents step out on roads in fear as the unruly motorists who perform stunts and engage in over speeding causing concern among pedestrians and others. In the past, pedestrians have suffered grievous injuries due to bike stunt and over speeding.

The department booked  77,016 motorist for reckless riding and 53,186 motorist for over speeding. According to the department over 70 percent of motorist were two wheelers. 

The traffic department says it will check for repeated offenders and refer to regional transport department to suspend their licence. The roads, particularly those that are newly tarred and in extension areas have witnessed over speeding, reckless and wheeling menace. The youngsters are not sparing even residential areas where the road is 40-feet wide. 

"The bikers do such stunts to impress other. In the past, we had booked cases when these unruly motorists had ended up knocking pedestrians and other vehicles. Either they will injure themselves or cause injuries to others. Based on the direction of our seniors we have decided to impound the licence of all those who are engaged in wheeling and reckless riding,"  said Kashim Raja, Assistant Commissioner of Traffic and Planning.

Forget public even police personnel had become a victim of reckless riding. Ganesh a traffic constable once broke a leg when a two-wheeler rider rammed him.

"The policeman was on duty to catch two-wheeler who do stunts on Air Port road. In a bid to escape, the rider rammed and injured him. The policeman was admitted as he has suffered a fracture on his right leg. In another case, a senior citisen was rushed with a broken ankle as a two wheeler had crashed on him in Indiranagar police limit. The police should not only impound their license but also book a criminal case against such riders and drivers,"  said Dr Ajit Benedict, Director HOSMAT Hospital.

Following such incidents, police have intensified their inspection at Banaswadi, Indiranagar, Yelhanka, Chikkajala, Old Airport Road, Madivala and other Shivajinagar Traffic station limits
