Heavy rains to lash Bengaluru for three more days, is the city ready?

Feeling happy after the bright sun showed up in the morning following a deluge? Do not get carried away by the clear sky as the weather experts have warned three more days of wet days in Bengaluru!

The heavy rainfall is being attributed to the presence of trough which is running from Rayalaseema up to the Gulf of Mannar. Since the trough is running close to Bengaluru, the City has been witnessing showers. Besides, the moisture incursion has resulted in cloud development which further caused rains in the Bengaluru, reports Skymetweather.com.

The over 12-hour rain left the citizens locked up inside their homes upsetting their weekend plans. At many places, residents spent sleepless nights clearing the water that had entered many homes in the low-lying areas. Madiwala lake, Begur lake have been breached, and at least 25 trees have been uprooted. Yet, the City remained short of making the record rainfall.

According to the Skymetweather.com, during the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on September 2, the City recorded 21.8 mm of rainfall taking the rainfall count of September to 127 mm. In fact, the city had not received good rainfall in June and July, the usual monsoon months. But in August, the City had received a record number of rainfall. The city received a record rainfall in 24 hours on August 15 leaving many areas marooned. The City had clocked 17.5 cm rainfall, the highest rainfall in 24 hours in 127 years! It was in 1980 August that the City had received 16 cm rainfall in 24 hours.

It is being predicted that the City will continue to receive heavy rainfall in the next four days and mind you, the rain is expected to pound the city throughout the day. Bengaluru usually receives rainfall in the evening and nights. But The Times of India quoting the weather experts says it might rain during the morning and afternoon too. So, don't forget to umbrellas and rain coats, lest risk yourself in the deluge!
