9 heritage temple in the Mysore Palace to get a facelift

Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage has shortlisted close to a dozen temples across the city for renovation. Out of these, 9 belong to the Mysore palace that date back to an era beyond the temple's origins. While the Mysore Palace is one of the most visited tourist destinations in India, the temples within the temple premises have lived in ignominy.

These temples are Sri Kile Venkataramanaswamy Temple, Sri Kote Maramma Temple, Sri Pandurangavitala Temple, Sri Gayatri Devi Temple, Sri Shwetavarahaswamy Temple, Sri Anjaneyaswamy- Sri Ganapati temple, Sri Lakshminarayamnaswamy Temple gopura and the Sri Prasannakrishna Temple.

Apart from the temples in the palace premises, three other temples in Mysuru-Sri Kamakameshwari Temple, Ramanujacharya Road, Nandi statue premises, Chamundi hill and Pete Anjaneyaswami temple’s arch will also be renovated.

It is said that the temples inside the Mysuru Palace have even survived the fire that had severely damaged the palace almost two decades ago. In fact, one of them dates back to the 14th century. The current palace was rebuilt in the first decade of the 20th century. According to inside reports, the conservation expenses will cost Rs 3.5 crore. A tender has also been issued by the department for the rejuvenation of these temples. The conservation of the temples was a long-pending demand of the local citizens.
