The Horticulture Department has decided to uproot trees that are on the verge of falling and trim branches of trees that are branching onto streets hindering vehicular movements, following the advice of environment experts. Realising the danger of falling trees in the rain season, the Horticulture Department is taking precautionary measures.

Thousands visit Cubbon Park and the vehicular traffic is also heavy in the designated roads inside the Park and the threat trees falling on people or vehicle is more. Also, last year a tree had fallen on an athlete injuring him seriously. Hence, the department is pruning the branches of 20 trees and uprooting 12 trees. The committee headed by environment specialist Yallappa Reddy has identified these trees, according to Horticulture Department officials reports Kannada Prabha.

The committee was formed last year, headed by Dr Yallappa Reddy to identify over 100 year old trees. The committee of 7 consisted of Dr Hittalmani, horticulture expert and other senior officials from the Horticulture Department. The team visited Cubbon Park on Friday and identified the trees that were on the verge of falling and branches spreading onto the streets. The committee also instructed to plant fresh saplings at the spot. The Horticulture Department assistant director Mahantesh Moragoda said that the environment activists protest uprooting of trees or even pruning branches. Hence, the department decided to seek experts's advice.
