Coronavirus: India’s COVID-19 caseload breaches 14-lakh mark with record single-day spike
Daily COVID-19 cases in India went past 50,000 for the first time on Sunday even as the total caseload crossed 14 lakh, capping the deadliest week of the pandemic so far, when total cases grew by 28% and the death toll jumped by 19%.
FollowNew Delhi: With a record single-day jump of 49,931 COVID-19 cases, India's caseload climbed to 14,35,453 on Monday, while recoveries surged to 9,17,567, according to the Union health ministry data.
The country's death toll rose to 32,771 with 708 fatalities being recorded in a day, the data updated at 8 am showed.
There are 4,85,114 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country, while 9,17,567 patients have recovered and one person has migrated.
The recovery rate stands at 63.92%, according to the data.
The total number of confirmed cases also includes foreigners.
This is the fifth consecutive day when COVID-19 cases have increased by more than 45,000.
Maharashtra on Sunday once again crossed the 9,000 mark after reporting 9,431 fresh COVID-19 cases. Of this, 1,115 cases belong to Mumbai alone.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu recorded its highest single-day count for the fourth consecutive day with 6986 fresh cases reported in the state on Sunday. With this, the state COVID-19 tally has risen to 2,13,713. Among these, Chennai reported 1155 positive cases, bringing the city’s total to 94,695.
Delhi stands at the third place among the states with highest coronavirus caseload. COVID-19 tally crossed over 1.29 lakh and the death toll climbed to 3,806
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 1,68,06,803 samples have been tested up to July 26, with 5,15,472 samples being tested on Sunday (July 26).
