The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has introduced QR codes on street name boards in Bengaluru to enhance transparency and facilitate public complaints regarding road and infrastructure issues. The pilot project in the South Zone will eventually cover the entire city, with an estimated cost of 1.5 crores.

Bengaluru roads need a makeover every year. Not just roads, infrastructure,  streetlights, chambers etc. To address this issue, BBMP has started including the QR codes, on the street name boards to enhance transparency and provide the people with the names and numbers of concerned authorities. By scanning these QR codes, public will be able to get the information for all the related departments.

Every time, the public needed to alert the authorities of the problems with streetlights, roads and chambers by going physically to the office. BBMP has seriously taken quick action to provide immediate assistance to the public. By QR codes, one can complain to the relevant authorities regarding the issue.

A senior official of BBMP informed that this was a pilot project, starting in the South Zone. These QR codes will provide the specific details of the ward no., and streets. The QR codes will be installed on 10000 streets in the South Zone, starting from Koramangala. This project named ‘Road Reader’ was launched through the South Zone of Bengaluru. It has been applauded by the citizens. Step by step, it will be implemented across Bengaluru.

“The project costs 12 lakhs in the South Zone, with Deputy CM D.K.Shivakumar has ordered to implement this in all over Bengaluru City. The roads under BBMP are around 13 thousand km. The total cost of implementing the QR codes all over Bengaluru might reach 1.5 crores” stated Jayaram Rayapur, commissioner of the South Zone.
