22 years of Kargil war victory: India remembers the sacrifices

India is on Monday celebrating 22 years of its victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war. Marking the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the bravery of those who lost their lives protecting the nation motivated citizens every single day.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Army Chief General MM Naravane, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria, Indian Navy Vice Chief Vice Admiral G Ashok Kumar, and CISC Vice Admiral Atul Jain paid tributes to fallen heroes at National War Memorial in Delhi.
 
In his message on Kargil Vijay Diwas, General Naravane said that the nation will always be indebted for the valour and sacrifice of the Bravehearts. 

Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, Ladakh Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur and Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal paid floral tributes at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras.

President Ram Nath Kovind, who too was to lay a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, was forced to change his plan at the last minute due to bad weather. He would lay a wreath at Baramula War Memorial. 

On July 26, 1999, the Indian armed forces defeated Pakistan and since then, the day is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas to rekindle the pride and valour of the soldiers who took part in Operation Vijay.
