Pataudi Trophy 2021, 4th Test: What inspired Rohit Sharma to score century on Day 3?
India piled pressure on England on Day 3 of the fourth Test at The Oval, with Rohit Sharma scoring a century. Meanwhile, Rohit was seemingly inspired when he was promoted as the opener in 2019.
On Saturday, India came up with an exquisite batting performance on Day 3 of the fourth Test against England at The Oval in London. It was opener Rohit Sharma's excellent century that put the visitor marginally on top.
Although he was dismissed for 127, he put India in a commendable position, as it still has a lot to play for on Day 4. Meanwhile, speaking on his century following the post-day press conference, Rohit said that in 2019 when he was promoted as an opener, he realised that it was his final chance to make his mark in the longest format.
Rohit reckoned that while the fact kept playing at the back of his mind, he came in to bat all the time, ready to take up the challenge. He was also aware that failing to perform as an opener in the format would lead to the end of his Test career, as he did not gell well in the middle-order.
However, Rohit also estimated that any sport is about taking chances, which is why he thrived in it. He also admitted that while he had the backing of the team management for the long run, he considered it the other way and took it up as his last opportunity to succeed in the format.
Rohit also said that he did not mind looking ugly as long as he was getting the job done for him and the side. He also asserted that once in a blue moon, some overseas players come in and scores a century in England, which is certainly not an easy task, as one needs to keep ticking the small boxes.
