Telugu Bigg Boss embroiled in Human Rights Commission battle

The Telugu Bigg Boss hosted by actor NT Rama Rao Jr. and telecast in Star Maa has hit a roadblock with its first legal battle. The show garnered large number of viewers within a few days of its telecast is now embroiled in a legal battle.

A Hyderabad-based activist has moved the State Human Rights Commission (HRC) demanding an enquiry into alleged human rights violations on the sets of Bigg Boss.

According to The News Minute, Achyuta Rao from Balala Hakkula Sangham (Children Rights Society) submitted his petition to the HRC on Friday evening.

The petition reads, “The participants are punished often. They are made to stick plaster on their mouth so that they do not talk, eat, or drink water for hours. They are asked to dip 50 times in swimming pools and are made to sleep in the garden at night. They are also asked to chop a bag full of onions as punishment.”

Captain Prince was punished with 50 dips in the swimming pool for not carrying out his duties properly while Mumaith Khan was made to wear a plaster on her mouth for some hours for not speaking Telugu.

The petition also said that, “Nobody is punishable unless court convicts him/her. Then, how could Bigg Boss punish contestants? It comes under violation of Human Rights. Such a practice would influence younger generation in a wrong way. So, action must be taken against Bigg Boss.”

While Bigg Boss in any language has never been short of controversies, the recent regional shows Bigg Boss Tamil hosted by Kamal Haasan and Bigg Boss Telugu hosted by NTR seem to be in frequent trouble.

Achyuta Rao further stated that the show which has a growing TRP and is a popular show on TV is not a good influence for kids, “Crores of people are watching the show every day. If kids try to emulate these punishments and drown in a pool who will be responsible for it?”

Earlier another TV Reality show Aata hosted by Omkar also faced HRC complaints. But the show became a success in spite of its legal controversies. Would the HRC act according to the social benefit or not remains to be seen.
