Oops Major blunder mars La La Lands Oscar night

Woah! Hollywood actors Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the wrong name as the winner for best film at the 2017 Oscars. They called out for 'La La Land' instead of 'Moonlight,' the correct winner.

Dunaway had read the winner before Beatty could stop her.

Soon the cast and crew of La La Land arrived on stage to accept the award before someone realised there was some confusion.

Producer Jordan Horowitz said, "There's been a mistake," and he ran onstage. "Moonlight, you guys won."

Moonlight director Barry Jenkins said he was shocked and speechless when the correct result was announced.

Warren Beatty later explained to the crowd, Dunaway had paused to look at the envelope, which read "Emma Stone, La La Land." Stone, who had just won best actress.

"That's why I took such a long look at Dunaway...I wasn't trying to be funny," she explained to the audience.

She soon said, "This is Moonlight the best picture."

La La Land's cast and crew were halfway through their acceptance speeches when the mistake was realised.

Host Jimmy Kimmel joked: "Warren, what did you do?"

The Washington Post reported it as the most shocking Oscars moment ever in history, and the mistake was quickly picked up as a topic of discussion by viewers and social media.
