Exit Poll Results 2021: What will happen in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry?

The exit polls for the four states and one Union Territory began at 7 pm after the voting procedure for the last phase concluded in West Bengal today evening. Votes will be counted on May 2.

The polls are conducted by private firms and media organisations such as Today's Chanakya, ABP-Cvoter, News18, India Today-Axis, Times Now-CNX, NewsX-Neta, Republic-Jan Ki Baat, Republic-CVoter, ABP-CSDS and Chintamani.

Exit polls remain barred when elections are being held. For these four states and one UT, the Election Commission prohibited the conduct and publishing of results of any exit polls between March 27m 7am and April 29, 7.30pm. Later, the time was amended to April 29, 7pm.

West Bengal

The eighth and final phase of voting in Bengal concluded today. Top BJP leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh and party president JP Nadda among others held several rallies and public meetings in different parts of the state. Incumbent Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee too took on the Opposition with several rallies on a wheelchair.

Tamil Nadu

While many parties are in the fray in Tamil Nadu, the key contest is between ruling AIADMK and M K Stalin-led DMK. The AIADMK is contesting these polls in alliance with the BJP while the DMK has partnered with the Congress. This is the first time the AIADMK and the DMK are contesting the polls without their supreme leaders, J Jayalalitha and K Karunanidhi.

Kerala

The Kerala Assembly elections were held on April 6, 2021 in a single phase for 140 seats. In Kerala, it is a three-cornered fight between the incumbent Left-led LDF, the Congress-led UDF, and the BJP.

Assam

Polling was held in three-phase is Assam on March 27, April 1 and April 6. The BJP is facing the combined challenge of eight parties including the Congress and the AIUDF. The BJP and its allies AGP and UPPL contested 92 seats, 26 seats, and 8 seats respectively while on the other side the Congress claimed 94 seats for itself, AIUDF as allotted 14, Bodoland People’s Front got 12, and Communist Party of India (Marxist) got 2 seats.

Puducherry

In Puducherry, the electoral war is between two alliances. A group of four political parties led by the Congress is pitched against a combination of three parties headed by the All India NR Congress (AINRC). The BJP and AIADMK are aligned with the AINRC while the DMK along with Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and CPI are fighting together with Congress.
