Jofra Archer has been a headache for England of late owing to his recent injury struggles. While he underwent surgery on a finger in his right hand to get a glass fragment removed, he also had to undergo another surgery on his right elbow last week.

Following the same, he is in the race against time to be fit for the upcoming Tests against India, starting August. While he would be leaving no stones unturned to make that possible, he has seemingly made a massive admission regarding the same.

Archer has admitted that he won't be rushing his comeback, despite being eager to feature against India. He has further stated that if he is unable to recover fully from this injury, he would not think of playing cricket by being half-fit, as it would do no good to his career.

"I just want to get this injury sorted once and for all and that's why, I'm not looking that far ahead or at dates for a return to action. Because if I don't get this right, I won't play any cricket. Period. I am not going to do myself any good by coming back before I'm fully fit, so I will take my time and do what is best for me and my life," he wrote in a column for The Daily Mail.

"One thing I am determined about post-elbow operation is not to rush my comeback because my primary focus is to be playing for England in the Twenty20 World Cup and Ashes later this year. Those are my targets. If I come back before then and manage to play in the home Test series against India -- then fine, so be it. If I don't, I am quite prepared to sit out the summer," he added.

Meanwhile, England's director of men's cricket, Ashley Giles, has asserted that the management would not be looking to rush Archer into a comeback. However, he refrained from ruling him out entirely for the India series, while he remains favourite to be back in the frame for the Ashes later this year.

"I've talked a lot about our objectives in the T20 World Cup and the Ashes and we need to make sure he is best prepared for that. If it went swimmingly, we may see him earlier, but we're not going to put any deadlines on it. I'm very confident we'll get him back and get him back, as we've seen Jofra in the past. The surgery went well and if he recovers in the right amount of time, he'll be relieved, almost, that the shackles are off and he can come back and do what he loves doing," he told ESPNCricinfo.

"Every player is different. I think the thing that has been holding Jofra back is that he's had two different injuries in that elbow and it stops him doing what he does incredibly well - which is bowl quick. That must be frustrating for him. But, the most important thing is that we look after and care for his injury and him. So, his well-being is very important," he concluded.
