Coronavirus: India records 39,097 COVID cases, 546 deaths in 24 hours
Nearly two months after the second wave, there are signs of it receding significantly, however, health experts and authorities are on guard for possible surges.
India's COVID-19 tally rose marginally on Saturday after at least 39,097 fresh cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, the Union ministry of health and family welfare data showed.Â
The nation also recorded 546 fatalities on Saturday, taking the total death toll to 420,016. The data showed that recovery rate in the country was logged at 97.36 per cent.

On May 6, India saw its peak with at least 414,188 COVID cases in just 24 hours. However, the cases have dipped from then to settled at one-seventh of what the peak witnessed. The cases in the country have now plateaued as India continues to record cases between 30,000 to 50,000 infections for more than 30 days.
A total of 4,27,882,261 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in India so far, of which 4,267,799 were given in the last 24 hours, the health ministry data showed.
Maharashtra, which continues to be the worst-hit state, added 6,753 fresh cases and 167 deaths in a day.
