President of India Ram Nath Kovind greeted and addressed the nation on the eve of 75th Independence Day on August 14 at 7 pm.

In his address, President Kovind spoke on a range of topics and said that the world looks up to the miracle of India which reflects a plurality of traditions and yet is the biggest and most vibrant democracy.

He urged the citizens to get vaccinated against Covid-19 at the earliest and help in building a stronger nation together.

"Vaccines are the best protection provided by science for all of us at the moment. I urge all the countrymen to get vaccinated as per protocol as soon as possible," President Kovind said.

He said, “Parliament is the ‘temple of the country’s democracy’ which provides the highest forum to discuss, debate and decide issues for the well-being of people, remarks that came against the backdrop of the recent ruckus and continuous disruptions that led to the abrupt adjournment of the two Houses.

His remarks came after Parliament was adjourned sine die two days ahead of the scheduled date, after a tumultuous Monsoon session that witnessed unruly scenes in the Upper House on Wednesday when the Insurance bill was being passed.

'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav'

In his address to the nation on the eve of Independence Day, the President said, "It is a matter of great joy for me to wish all Indians, living in India and abroad, a very Happy Independence Day! This day has a special significance as it marks the beginning of the 75th year of India's independence for which 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' is being celebrated. My hearty congratulations to you all on this momentous occasion!"

Seeking to address the farmers’ protest and the concerns raised by them, the President said, “the series of agricultural marketing reforms will empower our ‘annadata' farmers and help them get better price for their produce.”

Referring to the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics, he lauded the “stellar” performance by the country’s sportspersons.

"In the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics, our sportspersons have brought laurels to the nation with their stellar performances," Kovind said.

“Looking back at these 75 years, India has made a lot of progress. In the recent Olympics 2020, Indian participants made the country proud as they made history. India's daughters also achieved the international feat in these games,” he added.

 Talking about the Corona warriors, President Ram Nath Kovind acknowledged that doctors, nurses, health workers, administrators, and others who have risked everything to arrest the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Our corona warriors, the doctors, nurses and health workers, the administrators, and others, risked everything to contain the impact of the second wave.”
