India’s first door-to-door COVID-19 health screening survey launched in Bengaluru
As part of the scheme--“Palike Vaidyaru Nimma Mane Bagilige” (Palike doctors at your doorstep)—a doctor along with a para medical staff will collect information on Covid-19 symptoms and comorbidities as well as provide advice on healthcare.
FollowThe Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Bengaluru’s civic body, rolled out India’s first ambitious initiative of a team of doctors and other healthcare workers visiting every household in a door-to-door survey to determine the general health of residents.
As the survey primarily focuses on assessing the spread of Covid-19 and tracing new infections, the team will also collect information to create a database on citizens’ health parameters.
As part of the scheme--“Palike Vaidyaru Nimma Mane Bagilige” (Palike doctors at your doorstep)—a doctor along with a para medical staff will collect information on Covid-19 symptoms and comorbidities as well as provide advice on healthcare.
“In the first phase, two wards each from assembly constituencies, 54 in total, have been chosen and the survey will start on August 16, 2021,” the BBMP said in a statement on Monday.
As quoted by a news report in Deccan Herald, Revenue Minister R Ashoka, who flagged off the survey said, not everyone in the city can afford to go to hospitals. Be it slum dwellers or construction workers, our doctors will reach everyone. This is a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country and will help build confidence in the public.
Initially, two wards would be selected in each Assembly segment for the programme and a team of doctors, paramedics and ASHA (accredited social health activist) workers would visit every house and screen the households.
Gradually, the door-to-door visits by doctors would be extended to all or any of the 29 lakh houses in Bengaluru.
For this, an app has been developed wherein the patients would be screened for any symptoms and comorbidities. the info would be uploaded on the app.
Every ward will have one ambulance, 250 ambulances are available in the city.
The government has instructed all private hospitals to reserve 50% beds for Covid patients. Also, guidelines regarding modalities for reference from a government hospital and direct admission, will be out soon.
