Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has hit back at state governments and leaders for making inaccurate statements with regard to the availability of vaccines and accused them of creating panic among people.

In a series of posts on Twitter, the Health Minister said that to facilitate vaccination through government and private hospitals, 11.46 crore vaccine doses were made available to the state governments and Union Territories in June. The vaccine availability was increased to 13.5 crores in July.

Delhi, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu were among the states that reported a shortage of vaccines. Some of these states said they were forced to shut down vaccination centres.

Also, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday lashed out at the central government over the shortage of Covid-19 vaccine in several states. "Jumla hai, Vaccine nahi," (There is rhetoric, there is no vaccine) he tweeted.

However, laying out the facts, Mandaviya said that the Centre had informed the states on June 19 about how many doses of the vaccine would be made available to the states in July.

Therefore, the minister said, the states know very well when and in what quantity they would get the vaccine dose.

The central government did this so that the state governments can plan their vaccination up to the district level and so that people do not face any problems, he added.

The Union Health Minister accused the states that have been complaining about vaccine availability of mismanagement which had resulted in long queues being witnessed.

He said that the Centre had given the information of vaccine supply much in advance, then it is very clear where the problem lies and who is responsible for it.

Calling upon leaders who have been giving critical statements on vaccine supply to introspect, the minister wondered if these leaders were so disconnected from the administrative work that they don't even know about the information coming well in advance from the Centre.
