The Delhi high court on Thursday issued summons to yoga guru Ramdev on a suit by Delhi Medical Association (DMA). The DMA said in its petition that Ramdev's company Patanjali is propagating false information about its Coronil kit that it is a cure for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

However, the court today refused to restrain Baba Ramdev from making any statements against the use of allopathic medicines and in favour of Patanjali's Coronil as it remarked that the averments were just an "opinion" which had to be tested at the touchstone of free speech.

The Court also took the prima facie view that it cannot be accepted that Ramdev's statements caused injury to members of the DMA.

Yoga guru Ramdev has made a statement on Coronil kit to be a cure for Covid, for which the DMA, on behalf of its doctors said that the information is creating confusion among masses at this crucial time and it is misleading. It said that the Ramdev's statement affects as that medicine does not cure coronavirus.

The High Court orally asked the counsel for Baba Ramdev to tell him not to make any provocative statement till the next date of hearing on July 13 and respond to the suit.

Ramdev, the founder of Patanjali Group, is in the eye of the storm over comments against the allopathic system of medicine, including coronavirus vaccines.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) took strong objection to the comments made by Ramdev last month. Citing a video circulating on social media, the IMA said Ramdev claimed that allopathy is a "stupid science".

In a viral video clip, Ramdev was seen questioning some of the medicines being used to treat the coronavirus infection and saying that "lakhs have died from taking allopathic medicines for Covid-19".

His remarks didn't go down well with the doctors' association, following which Union health minister Harsh Vardhan asked him to withdraw the "extremely unfortunate" statement.

Ramdev's company Patanjali launched a herbal remedy called Coronil in 2020, that Ramdev, who also has a TV channel, had said would cure coronavirus.
