Border issue: Assam CM responds to Zoramthanga's peace call, drops FIR against Mizo RS MP Vanlalvena
The Assam chief minister said that his state wants to keep the spirit of Northeast alive and, at the same time, is also committed to ensuring peace along its borders.
FollowAssam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has responded to his Mizoram counterpart, Zoramthanga's offer to settle the border dispute amicably and directed the Assam Police to withdraw the FIR against Rajya Sabha MP from Mizoram K Vanlalvena.
In a series of posts on Twitter, Himanta said that he had taken note of public statements by Zoramthanga, who sought to settle the border dispute amicably.Â

Respite for Mizoram MP
To take Zoramthanga's goodwill gesture forward, Hiimanta directed Assam Police to withdraw the FIR against Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena, who had been accused of making a threatening statement over the last month's border clash in which six policemen and a civilian were killed.
According to reports, days after the border clash, Vanlalvena allegedly told media persons outside Parliament that Assam Police was lucky that Mizoram's forces did not kill all their personnel who were present on the spot. He also warned that if they (Assam Police) come again, all of them shall be killed.
Himanta, however, reiterated that cases against other accused Mizoram police officers would be pursued.
Assurance over teleconference
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had on Sunday spoken to Himanta Biswa Sarma and Zoramthanga over the phone in an attempt to defuse the border tension between the two northeastern states.
Zoramthanga took to Twitter after the teleconference call to say that the two chief ministers had communicated to the Union Home Minister that they wanted to resolve the Mizoram-Assam border issue amicably through meaningful dialogue.
Zoramthanga also appealed to the people of Mizoram to avoid posting provocative messages and misuse social media. He said all measures need to be taken to de-escalate the ongoing tension.
