Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday stated that 78 per cent of India's eligible population has been inoculated with the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine while 35 per cent after receiving both shots are fully vaccinated.

Taking to Twitter, he described it as an extraordinary feat as the announcement came on the 290th day of the Covid-19 vaccination drive that began on January 16 this year.

"An extraordinary feat of an extraordinary nation! India has administered 1st Covid-19 vaccine dose to 78 per cent of the eligible population and 2nd dose to 38 per cent of the eligible people. Congratulations to all as we rapidly progress on our path to defeat the virus!" Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted.

India reported 12,514 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, taking the total cases tally to 3,42,85,814, while 251 more fatalities during the same period pushed the death toll to 4,58,437.

Earlier in the day, Australia recognised India’s Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin for Indians travelling to its country. The recognition is for travellers aged 12 and over who have been jabbed with Covaxin.
