With over 1,200 Covid victims' ashes remaining unclaimed at 12 crematoriums in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits from the last 15 days, under the supervision of Revenue Minister R Ashoka, now these victims will be given a decent sendoff.

Today (June 2) at 12 pm, after the customary rituals on the banks of river Cauvery situated at Malavalli taluk Shree Annapoorneshwari Devi and Kashi Vishwanataha temple, these unclaimed ashes will be immersed.

As per reports, at 12 crematoriums in Bengaluru limits, the Covid victims were cremated, while some relatives took the ashes within a day or two for 'visarjan', however about 1,200 victim's ashes remained unclaimed from the last 15 days. As no one was coming forward, the state government decided to do the honours and give a decent sendoff to victims.

As Covid second wave is proving to be more dangerous and most families have been impacted, the fear of getting infected is still looming large and people are staying away from participating in last rites or immersion of ashes of Covid victims. In such cases where ashes have remained unclaimed, the state government has decided to conduct the final rites.

Karnataka sees dip in cases, but deaths a worrying figure:

On Tuesday, the state once again witnessed 14,304 new Covid cases. The dip in the number indicates the impact of lockdown and following of strict Covid protocols. However, the death rate in the state still remains a concern as 464 deaths were reported across the state. Once again Bengaluru Urban area remains on top with 272 deaths.
