Apple iPhone prices have been reduced by up to 7.5 per cent and this time around it’s not the company but the government behind the alleged price cut. Though the company has passed on the benefit with immediate effect, after the new tax system of GST came into effect on July 1.
The biggest benefit would offcourse be on the costliest iPhone. The 256GB iPhone 7 Plus which was available for at Rs 92,000 is now selling for Rs 85,000. The iPhone SE, which is the iPhone to buy right now, has got a reduction of around Rs 1,000 in its old list price of Rs 27,000. All the prices are mentioned on Apple India website in the ‘compare iPhone models’ section.
As with most other phones, iPhone prices now are not the same throughout channels and different retailers across India, including those online like Flipkart and Amazon, are selling units at different prices. The 128GB iPhone 7 Plus for example is available at Rs 69,999 on Flipkart and Rs 64,539 on Amazon at the time of writing, while you may get it even cheaper at a brick and mortar store near you.
Apple also slashed the prices of iMacs, MacBooks, iPads and iWatch. The 10.5-inch iPad Pro WiFi only 64GB variant is now listed at Rs 50,800, down from the previous Rs 52,900. The 256GB and 512GB models also got cheaper by Rs 1,700 and Rs 3,000 respectively.
Though there is no change in the MacBook Air prices, the MacBook Pro and 12-inch MacBook base models are both available for around Rs 1,04,900 down from Rs 1,09,900. Their higher spec-ed models have effectively got more reduction in price, around Rs 6,000-Rs 11,000.
Though the new prices have not come into effect at all stores right now, and some stores are even selling products at higher prices, they have only been reduced under the new tax regime.
