Just nine days before the Tokyo Olympic 2020 gets underway, the last-moment preparations by the organisers continue in full swing. The global spectacle gets underway from July 23 with the opening ceremony and concludes on August 8 with the closing ceremony.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Games, the president of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, is overseeing all the preparations. On the same note, he visited the headquarters of the organising committee in Hiroshima on Tuesday while protests against hosting the Games continued.

Olympics reports that Bach applauded the organisers for having done a commendable job so far. He also termed Tokyo as the best-ever prepared city for the Games. At the same time, he said that it was even remarkable, considering that all the arrangements had been made perfectly despite the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.

He met Organising Committee president Hashimoto Seiko before taking the office tour, while he also met some senior executives and CEO Muto Toshiro. Nevertheless, he reminded that there would still be a lot of work left to do, as it would only be over once all the athletes have left the city. He urged them to deliver their best, now that the stage is nearly set.

Bach assured the committee that the ultimate target for the organisers would be to host a safe and secure Games. He also put his faith in the Japanese people, along with the strict testing regime and the vaccination drive, as he stood in solidarity with them.
