Dhoni does not want the biopic to glorify him

During the conceptual phase of MS Dhoni - The Untold Story, the Indian limited-overs skipper precisely asked his biopic's director Neeraj Pandey to concentrate on the inherent struggles in "decision-making processes" and not glorify him.

Dhoni along with his wife Sakshi and the film's producer Arun Pandey were in the US to promote the film; that is set to release worldwide on September 30.

During the promotion, the skipper about his life and the transformation from a talented small town boy to one of India's most respected captain.

"I told Neeraj that this movie should not be to glorify me. It's about the journey of a professional sportsperson, and that's what it should depict," Dhoni told reporters during the film's promotional event.

Being a person who likes to live in the present, it was "difficult" for Dhoni to go back into the past and narrate his story to Neeraj for the movie.

After watching the unedited version of the biopic, Dhoni expressed to have relived his past again as memories of his childhood.

Dhoni, who is known for not showing emotions on the field, could not hold them back after watching the movie for the first time.

"The movie brought back tons of memories from my growing up days. From where I lived, how my school was, the ground where I practised, everything turned fresh in my mind," the cricketer who hails from Ranchi, added.

"It was nice to go back into the past for a while as I got to know what people thought of me then. I have never had a conversation about cricket with my parents so it was great to get a glimpse of what they thought about me and my career," a delighted Dhoni said.

The reporters then asked him if he was worried about how the world will perceive him as a human being and cricketer after watching the movie. He replied, "I was a little worried initially about the concept of the movie, but once we began the production, I was not worried anymore as I was then just narrating my side of the story."

Dhoni also shared a few moments of his cricketing life that had a huge impact on him.

He said the 2007 World Cup loss and the ensuing reactions against him and the team had a big impact on him. He also suggested that experience "was a big turning point in my life."

Dhoni admitted that his captaincy is more about gut feeling as it comes from the experiences of his life.

"The gut feeling is all about the experiences that you have had in your life. It is about being in difficult scenarios, knowing what worked, what did not and then taking a decision," he said.
