Telangana scraps EAMCET-2 after question paper leakage

Notwithstanding the opposition from students and parents across the state , Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday officially announced  the cancellation of the 'Engineering, Agriculture Medicine Common Entrance Test-2 ( Eamcet-2), following the investigation into the leakage of the question paper.

After a detailed review of the situation in the light of the report submitted by the CID, which investigated the EAMCET-2 leakage, the CM said scrapping the exam altogether was the best and popular option.

“I feel very sad about the decision. It's true thousands of students are being penalized for the crime committed by a few culprits. The government will ensure that leakage will never recur in the future. Please cooperate with us,”  KCR asked the people of the state after a high-level review meeting this afternoon, attended by  minister Kadiyam Srihari (Education), Lakshma Reddy (health), Rajeswar Tiwari ( Principal secretary, Health), Venugopal Reddy - VC of JNTU, Papireddy - Chairman in Higher Education Council, Sivadhar Reddy - Intelligence chief, Sowmya Mishra - IG CID etc.

After reviewing the  various similar instances of question paper leakage in India, the CM was convinced that the best option was to scrap the EAMCET-2 and conduct EAMCET-3.

In the review, the CM was informed that a certain Mukul Jain, Mayank Sharma, Sunil Singh and Iqbal, who operated at right up to Delhi, were the key persons involved in the leakage scam.

According to the CID report, in total 34 brokers were involved in the conspiracy and 200 students were allegedly contacted by the brokers.

It is also brought to the notice of the CM that so far there were about 70 instances of question paper leakages in India and on every occasion re-examination was the preferred option.

"Even though it is a sad decision to subject the students to this treatment, the government is forced to opt for the EAMCET-3 for the sake of fairness. And the government will take foolproof measures to prevent a recurrence of leakage," the CM assured students and parents and asked the JNTU to announce the fresh schedule within a day or two.

Accordingly, the JNTU announced later that evening that EAMCET-3 would be conducted on September 11, 2016. The JNTU has also appointed university registrar Prof Yadaiah as the new convenor of the EAMCET.

It was also decided that all those students who appeared for EAMCET-2 need not apply for EAMCET-3 and they would be allowed to write the exam with their old hall tickets and roll numbers.

And it was also decided that the JNTU would ply buses without charging students a fare to get them to the exam centres. The JNTU will make available study material and old question paper banks with answers on the university website.
