Riot of colours welcome visitors at Lal Bagh flower show

Riot of colours welcomes visitors at Lal Bagh's 204th flower show

For the 204th edition of the flower show in Lal Bagh, the horticulture department, has adopted what is known as 'mist technology' to keep the Glass House damp and suppress dust pollution, which affects the flowers.

HS Shivakumar, Horticulture Director, said, "The show stopper this year is the Indian Parliament House constructed in the Glass House using more than four lakh flowers."

The flowery Parliament House measures 27 feet in height and 38 feet in breadth. Some 32 flower decorators took nine days to construct it. The House is designed with red, white and orange flowers.

The flowers have been sourced from various parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

The Glass House will also feature Orchids and other flowers as well.

Another floral attraction is the Nepenthes, also known as tropical pitcher plants or monkey cups. These are carnivorous plants found in Assam. Other varieties of carnivorous plants will also be on the display.

These plants grow in places where soil fertility is low. Hence, these plants trap and digest small insects as nutrition.

Over 700 exhibitors are taking part in the show. And as usual, visitors can purchase hundreds of plant saplings and various gardening equipment.

The tickets are priced at ₹50 during weekdays and ₹60 for adults during weekends. Children will be charged ₹20 on all days. Students will be let in for free on August 11 and 15.

Post the Mysuru court blast, and anticipating over four lakh visitors during the flower show, the Bengaluru police has set up CCTVs and metal detectors. In all four entrances, cameras have been fixed to monitor movement. The Glass House, as a historic building, has been given special focus. Some 27 cameras have been set up within it.
