Scamsters unlock CM's relief fund with forged documents

Misappropriation of Chief Minister’s Relief Fund

The scamsters submitted forged documents and fake medical reports in the name of 54 beneficiaries to the Karnataka Chief Minister’s office and have allegedly managed to swindle huge sums of relief money. The police have arrested Amoghappa from Kalburgi, MK Kiran from Tumkur, CM Nagaraj Shetty and Shankar, residents of Mandya.

The four men gathered documents such as election identity cards, ration cards and aadhar cards from rural people which they claimed was for purposes of residence or domicile authentication. They fraudulently linked these documents with fake medical bills and expense vouchers as supportive documents for having undergone medical treatment at expensive private hospitals by these rural people and sought reimbursement from the CM fund, it is alleged.

Apart from this, they had attached recommendation letters from VIPs such as ministers, legislators and councillors and used these letters to expedite the release of funds.

The culprits are said to have submitted fake medical documents in the genuine letterheads of 10 hospitals including Sagar Hospital, Mallya Hospital, Fortis Hospital, one hospital in Kalburgi and two well-known hospitals in Maharashtra.

They allegedly gave false assurances to many beneficiaries in Kalburgi's rural areas of getting them government funds, and are also said to have taken some money from them in the name of ‘processing amount’.
