Metro Rail Safety Commissioner to inspect Kochi Metro

  • Commissioner will verify safety aspects pertaining to signalling, rolling stocks, telecommunications and capacity of train

Metro Rail Safety Commissioner to inspect Kochi Metro

Kochi Metro Rail is ostensibly one step closer to inauguration as a team from Metro Rail Safety Commissioner arrives in Kochi to inspect project development. The officer will conduct the inspection of Muttom Coach Depot and Metro Rail track from Aluva to Palarivattom on Monday.
 

The Commissioner will inspect all safety parameters for passengers travelling in metro trains.  The safety certification of the Commissioner is very crucial in getting the go-ahead to run the service. 
 

He will check the aspects by travelling in the train along the route. The officer will also inspect the capacity of the train, its speed and safety parameters at stations via key infrastructure and ducts. The commissioner will also verify safety aspects pertaining to telecommunications system and signalling and rolling stock. 
 

Kochi Metro Rail Ltd plans to operate one train every ten minutes between Maharaja's College and Aluva from April 2017. In the intitial phase seven sets of trains, each consisting of three cars, will be kept on track, Six sets of trains will run while one will be kept as stand by. Alstom, the agency supplying coach to KMRL has already delivered two sets of trains, and the third set is expected to arrive by the end of this month. The seventh set will reach by February. 
 

Each train can carry 975 passengers and has a length of 65 m. During trial runs, trains have attained a maximum speed of 10 km per hours. It is expected that the trains can cover 18 km distance from Maharaja's College to Aluva in 30 minutes if the average speed is fixed at 34 km per hour. The maximum speed of the trains is 80km per hour. 
 

The Union Government will give approval based on the inspection and report of the commissioner.
