Kerala school ragging: Student attacked for wearing T-shirt

The menace of ragging seems to have made a come back with the reopening of schools and colleges. Last month a Dalit nursing student from Kerala was admitted to a hospital in critical condition following a ragging incident by senior students.

This time, a similar incident has been reported from a higher secondary school in Kerala. An 11th class student was admitted to a local hospital on Saturday allegedly for injuries suffered by ragging. 

Basil Azeez, a native of Vattamkulam, Kuttippala in Malappuram has complained that he was brutally beaten by senior students on the second day of school. Aziz is admitted to a private hospital in Edapal with injuries to the neck and right arm. 

An eight-member gang attacked him and beat him repeatedly with a warning not to wear a T-shirt. 

"They said that only shirt can be worn in school and that T-shirts are not allowed. They beat me three-four times. Then they came to class and attacked me, Aziz said.

Though a complaint was made to school authorities they asked not to give it much importance, he said. 

Aziz is a plus-one computer science student of Kdanchery Government Higher Secondary School, Malappuram. Ponnani police have registered a case based on the complaint given by the student.
