ISIS 'Prince' among two arrested by NIA in Hyderabad

ISIS hyderabad Amir prince Baghdadi arrested

In a major breakthrough bound to affect the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday arrested two people including a key member, who was given the title of Prince (Amir or Emir).

Among ISIS ranks, an Amir or Emir is elected to govern a particular region and is among their top-ranks. In Syria and Iraq, where the Sunni terrorist group controls large areas, the ruler or the governor of the region is given the title of an Amir.

On Tuesday, the NIA announced that they have arrested two key members of ISIS from Hyderabad. The arrested were identified as Naimathullah Hussaini alias Abu Darda, he works in a garment shop and  Mohammad Ataullah Rehman, teaches English at a local TOEFL training centre.

Hussaini aka Abu Darda held the title of Amir and was responsible for collecting funds for the group. NIA also have arrested one Mohammed Ataullah Rehman. He reportedly  is also among the senior ranks and would administer the Bayah or oath to the new ISIS recruits. ISIS members swear their allegiance to their head Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.

The two have been remanded to police custody for eight days, on the order of the NIA special court.

On 29 June, the NIA had arrested five city-based people on charges of their involvement in the terror module suspected to be linked to ISIS and conspiring to carry out bomb attacks.

The five – Mohammed Ibrahim Yazdani alias ‘Ibbu’, Habeeb Mohammed alias ‘Sir’, Mohammed Ilyas Yazdani, Abdullah Bin Ahmed Al Amoodi, and Muzaffar Hussain Rizwan – were arrested following a series of searches conducted at 10 locations in the Old City area, with the assistance of Hyderabad Police.

All the other arrested ISIS members also were also given ranks. According to the NIA, ISIS member Rizwan was given the title of Mahasib (account keeper), while Ibrahim Yazdani acted as Raa'bit - responsible for all communications. Ilyas Yazdani acted as their religious guide, while Habeen Mohammed took the role of Askari - responsible for weapons and arms.

With their arrest, the NIA had claimed that a probable Paris-style terror attack by ISIS ahead of Eid was averted. The ISIS men were planning a major attack using Triacetone Triperoxide (TATP).

Nicknamed 'the Mother of Satan,' TATP was most recently used during the November 2015 attacks in Paris. TATP can be made using household products, including Hydrogen Peroxide, which is used as an anti-septic and for bleaching and disinfecting.
