Ice Cream Parlour case: VS Achuthanandan to continue legal fight

Ice Cream Parlour case Achuthanandan approach trial court

Sending out a clear message that the main accused in the Kozhikode Ice Cream parlour sex trafficking case would be brought before the law, veteran communist leader VS Achuthanandan is all set to resume his legal battle in the 1997 case.  Sources say that Achuthanandan has directed his lawyer to approach the trial court after receiving a copy of Supreme Court judgement that denied his petition requesting a CBI investigation into sensational case that raised suspicions over the alleged links of many politicians including former Minister PK Kunhalikkutty.

Last week, a Supreme Court bench headed by  Chief Justice of T.S. Thakur and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud had dismissed a plea filed by former Chief Minister Achuthanandan seeking a CBI probe into the case. The  apex court was not a place to settle political vendetta, and Achuthanandan can approach the trial court, the judgment said.

But what came as a major embarrassment to the CPM leader was the stand taken by the Left Democratic Front (LDF)  government in the case. Echoing the United Democratic Front's (UDF) stance, the government counsel objected to Achuthanandan's petition and said it was politically motivated.

The Kozhikode Ice Cream parlour sex trafficking case that put Muslim League leader Kunhalikutty under cloud remained a hot controversy in Kerala politics for years since 1997 when it surfaced. The investigation into the case, however, did not succeed in clearing the doubts over the shady dealings and the elaborate attempts to cover it up. Achuthanandan has been closely pursuing case ever since, promising that he will fight till justice is ensured for the poor victims of the sex mafia.
