The protests in Bengaluru over Cauvery water took an ugly turn in Hegganahalli cross after one youth was killed and another injured in police firing.

According to reports, a large mob of protestors, armed with stones and bricks attempted to torch a 'Hoysala' police van near Mohan theatre when Rapid Action Forces opened fire. 25-year-old Umesh from Singenahalli in Tumkur was killed in the firing, and Chandramohan Singh was injured in the leg.
Umesh, a resident of Hegganahalli in Rajgopalnagar, was shot in the chest. He was transported to Lakshmi Multi Speciality hospital but did not respond to treatment. His body was later shifted to Victoria Hospital mortuary. Umesh reportedly worked at a petrol bunk in JP Nagar and is the father of a one-year-old child. His wife is also reported to be pregnant.
Speaking to Asianet Newsable, Ramu, the uncle of the victim, said that they would keep the body in Victoria Hospital as a form of protest until the government gave them compensation.
The situation in Hegganahalli remains tense.
CM Siddaramaiah has reportedly summoned Bengaluru Commissioner Megharik and DGP Om Prakash to his residence 'Krishna' over the incident.
Police have imposed Section 144 in several areas of the city and have declared a holiday for schools and colleges on September 12 as well.
Transport services like the BMTC and the Bengaluru Metro are planned to run as scheduled. However, they may be interrupted.
