Achuthanandan, who was always vocal against corruption and who promised to be the sentinel of Kerala people, kept a studied silence and curtly told media persons that he needed time to study the issues. When asked about what he felt about the law amendment bill passed by the Assembly on Tuesday to clear the legal bottlenecks to install him as the Chairman of the Kerala Administrative Reforms Commission, the former Chief Minister said: "Let me study it first."

The CPM leader also refused to comment on the controversy that finally resulted in the unceremonious exit of MK Damodaran, the legal advisor to the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Meanwhile, there are reports that Achuthanandan has written a letter to the Chief Minister demanding the reinstatement of government counsel Susheela Bhat, who was removed from the post after the LDF came to power. Bhat has been spearheading legal battle for the government against land sharks and big plantations. The removal of Bhat had sparked a controversy after she alleged that the government bowed to land mafia by kicking her out.
