Kerala Assembly's special session on Thursday started with an early breakfast, which included beef fry, as legislators discussed the Centre's new order which restricts cattle trade and slaughter.

The lawmakers began the day at the Assembly canteen before proceeding to the chamber to debate on the order from the BJP-led central government, which allegedly infringes upon the state's rights.

On normal days, when the Assembly is in session, the food is served only after 11 am. However, an early breakfast was provided on Thursday and beef was one of the popular items on the menu.

"Today, with the session wholly devoted to discussing the beef issue, we brought 10 kg of beef early in the morning. Several MLAs have already had beef fry before heading to the Assembly floor," IANS quoted a canteen employee as saying.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan kicked off the daylong session by moving a resolution against the manner in which the Centre has floated the new order.

An unanimous resolution against Centre's order will not be possible as MLA O Rajagopal, the lone BJP legislator in the 140-member Kerala Assembly, will approve the order.
