UP deploys 'lota thieves' to disrupt morning rituals

Defecating on the railway tracks is not a new picture in India. People residing in the areas adjacent to the railway tracks all over the country have continued this practice since ages. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan has failed to put a halt to this practice. And now here are some kids in Bundelkhand, who are out to steal all the ‘lotas’ (water containers) of the men who openly defecates on the railway track.

Quite a phenomena, isn’t it? A job that was assigned by Modi to a certain group of people is being done by kids ranging from 6-16 years of age. It seems these kids are on a serious mission to stop the people from defecating on the railway tracks. Surprisingly, in a way, they are indeed helping the administration.

Believe it or not, Sagar district administration has actually roped in 250 school students to get this job done in 22 different wards.

We can have two questions after reading this:

• Are the people still not ashamed of openly defecating in public?

• Why will these kids help the administration in educating the people when they are in the age of getting educated?
