Stating that more than 10,000 Indian workers in Saudi Arabia are facing food crisis after losing their jobs, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj appealed to fellow Indians working in the Kingdom to lend a helping hand to the needy. Many Indians in Kuwait are also staring at the same plight after losing the job, she said.

“The number of Indian workers facing food crisis in Saudi Arabia is over Ten Thousand. It is not 800 as is being reported,” the minister tweeted. Though the problems in Kuwait are equally grave, the minister termed the situation there as 'manageable.'
The Minister assured that the Indian Mission will take steps to provide food and assistance to the jobless Indians there. The Jobless Indians in Saudi Arabia need immediate assistance while the problems in Kuwait are ‘manageable,” the minister felt. The Minister’s intervention followed an alert from an Indian who tweeted that 800 Indians were starving in Jeddah for the past few days.
"Our brothers and sisters are facing extreme hardship," Sushma said and requested fellow Indians to help the jobless. There was nothing mightier than the collective will of the nation. The Indian Embassy has been directed to provide free ration to the unemployed Indian workers in Saudi Arabia, she added.
Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh will soon travel to the Gulf nation to assess and to sort out the problem, the minister assured. A large number of Indians have lost their jobs in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and that their employers have not paid wages and closed down their factories.
