An image is being circulated on social media that claims to show the election schedule for Bengal polls. In that viral post, it has been claimed that elections are going to be held in Bengal in seven phases. The election in the state will start on April 1 and end on May 19.

The image also claims that the Election Commission of India has announced that the votes would be counted on May 23, 2021.

However, the claim of this post has been verified by Asianet News Bangla. The image attached in the viral post does not show dates for West Bengal's 2021 elections. These were the dates of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The image shows the schedule which was exactly followed for the Lok Sabha elections of 2019 which were held in the months of April and May.

In fact, there are 294 assembly constituencies and 42 Lok Sabha constituencies in Bengal. Therefore, Asianet News Bangla suspects that the election schedule is not for the Assembly but for the Lok Sabha. This also makes it clear that it cannot be the schedule of assembly elections.

With the help of google keyword search, it was found that the viral schedule has been created by copying the schedule of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has also called the viral schedule “fake” and said no such announcement of Bengal assembly elections has been made by the Election Commission.
